A Romantic Same-Sex Wedding -

Chelsea and Kaitlin had been waiting for this day for what seemed like forever. Nothing could ruin this day or stop them from walking down the aisle to say, “I do”, not even a tornado. The day was filled with emotion, laughter, and happy tears! To be honest, we may have cried a little too! Let us share a little more about this romantic same-sex wedding!

Sweet Proposals

It had been three years since the stars aligned and these two met and started their journey together. They knew that they wanted to be together forever. Their relationship was honest and simple from the start. You may be wondering, who proposed to who, but there were actually TWO proposals.

Kaitlin proposed the Chelsea first while walking through Maggie Daley Park in Chicago. The proposal was a completely surprise and of course followed with an immediate “Yes!” Even though they were now already engaged, Chelsea could not miss the opportunity to turn the tables and propose to Kaitlin! The couple shared this second proposal in their home with their beloved dogs, Otis and Tito!

To make these already special moments even more special, both of their engagement rings belonged to their maternal grandmothers. So touching and sweet!

Getting Ready Together

The love between Kaitlin and Chelsea was evident from the moment we arrived at their hotel where they were getting ready! Although the brides were planning a first look, they chose to spend their morning getting their hair and makeup done together. This was so sweet. Side by side in their matching bowling shirts, these brides were able to embrace this time together. No worries, the dresses were a complete surprise for the first look, which was perfect!

Alarmingly Sweet Ceremony

Minutes before the ceremony, tornado sirens began bellowing throughout the venue. (Surely a detail that every bride dreams of on their wedding day.) Without panic, Chelsea and Kaitlin embraced this small disturbance and decided to move forward with the ceremony anyway! Nothing, literally nothing was going to stop them now! These two were beaming as they walked down the aisle with their parents. Chelsea and Kaitlin’s ceremony was perfect from start to finish!

A Surprise Twist

One of the fun parts of this job is being able to see couples get creative and add details to their wedding day that go against the grain. Chelsea and Kaitlin did not disappoint. Wedding cake is a popular tradition that we have seen with different variation. We have seen large-tiered cakes, small intimate cakes, and even cupcakes but these two went in a completely different direction.

Sitting next to their sweetheart table was a toaster. Obviously, this caught our attention. Instead of choosing the traditional wedding cake, they decided to pop custom made pop-tarts out of the toaster and feed each other. This idea was so original and so stinking cute. We were obsessed!

Advice From the Brides

Chelsea and Kaitlin shared some advice for couples currently planning their weddings. Things will go wrong, but it is still your wedding day. It is the day that you get to marry your best friend, so no matter what happens, it will still be one of the best days of your life.

Also, choose vendors that you trust. I had the pleasure of shooting the engagement photos for Chelsea and Kaitlin. This allowed us to really build up that relationship and put them at ease on their big day! They already knew that they could trust me to get the special photos of the two of them, but also capture those special candid moments of their family and friends. Using vendors that you trust will ease your mind on your wedding day so that you can just focus on being present with your loved ones!

Celebrating Love

Kaitlin and Chelsea’s romantic same-sex wedding was a day full of emotions, love, and support. They wanted their friends and families to be able to celebrate, dance, and make memories together after having been apart due to the pandemic. This truly was a celebration to remember!
