There are some wedding days that feel beautiful. Then there are wedding days that feel deeply personal, woven with history, culture, family, and the kind of love that quietly changes your life. Julia and Georgios’ memorable wedding at the Blackstone Hotel Chicago was exactly that.

From heartfelt Greek traditions to Disney-inspired details hidden throughout the day, every part of their celebration reflected who they are together, elegant, intentional, emotional, and filled with joy. Their wedding blended timeless Chicago luxury with deeply meaningful moments that their family and friends will never forget.

A Love Story That Began in England

Julia and Georgios first met five years ago after both moving to England for medical school. What began as friendship quickly became something much deeper.

“Georgios caught my eye right away with his good looks and charming Greek accent,” Julia shared.

The two started as study buddies before officially beginning their relationship on October 16th, 2021. Exactly three years later, Georgios proposed. By the time they stood together at the altar, they had been together for precisely four and a half years.

Their connection was built on the smallest moments, the kind that quietly become the foundation of a lifetime.

For Georgios, it was watching Julia embrace his culture and family.

“What really sealed the deal was when she started learning Greek to be able to speak with my family. That meant a lot to me and I could see our future together.”

For Julia, it was the way life felt beside him.

“It sounds silly, but the way he danced around the kitchen with me, whether it was in my tiny med school apartment or in our new home together, really made me feel like he was someone I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. The way he indulges my love for Disney is also just incredibly sweet. I knew he would be a great father to our children someday.”

A Proposal by the Lake

On October 16th, 2024, Georgios planned a proposal that brought them back to where so much of their story began.

He asked Julia to meet him at 4 PM by the lake near the apartment where they first met in England, the same place where they shared their first kiss and spent countless evenings walking together during medical school.

Julia arrived straight from work, carrying a dress and shoes to change out of her scrubs. Except there was one problem.

She forgot the shoes.

“I ended up getting engaged in a dress wearing the gym shoes I wore to work,” she laughed. “I don’t think I’ll ever live that down. The photographer had to crop my feet out of every photo!”

When she arrived, Georgios stood waiting with a photographer nearby. Suspicious, but not entirely convinced, Julia followed along as the photographer directed them into position.

Then came the moment she’ll never forget.

“Georgios came up behind me to hug me and suddenly said, ‘Wait a minute… I need to fix my hair.’ I turned around to help him and saw him getting down on one knee holding the ring.”

Shocked and emotional, Julia immediately said yes.

But afterward, she asked him to do it one more time.

“This time in Greek,” she said. “I wanted to fully take in what he was saying to me.”

A Timeless Chicago Wedding at the Blackstone Hotel

After exchanging vows at St. James Chapel, guests made their way into downtown Chicago for a reception at the legendary Blackstone Hotel.

The venue held generations of family history. Julia’s grandmother and great-aunt both celebrated their weddings there in 1964, making the choice feel deeply sentimental from the start.

The ballroom itself was the perfect balance of grandeur and intimacy. Elegant architecture, warm candlelight, and lush floral design from Steve’s Flower Market transformed the historic space into something that felt cinematic yet personal.

And woven throughout the entire celebration was one subtle theme that perfectly reflected Julia and Georgios’ relationship: Happily Ever After.

As a lifelong Disney fan, Julia incorporated thoughtful nods throughout the day, including:

  • Georgios’ embroidered tuxedo jacket
  • Disney-inspired table numbers
  • A hidden Mickey pin tucked inside the bridal bouquet
  • Their first dance to “Happily Ever After,” the Magic Kingdom fireworks soundtrack

The song held special meaning for Julia and her father for years before she introduced it to Georgios on her 25th birthday.

“We knew we wanted to dance to this song because this wedding was the beginning of our own happily ever after.”

The Most Emotional Moments of the Day

One of the most emotional moments came during Julia’s first look with her father.

He gifted her a gold locket filled with family photos, including an image of their beloved dog Sprinkles, lovingly referred to as “the pup of honor from heaven.” He also surprised the couple with a heartfelt video message from Aaron Watson, the artist behind their father-daughter dance song, “Diamonds and Daughters.”

Then came the couple’s first look.

Julia had secretly written her vows in Greek as a surprise for Georgios. The moment she began speaking, emotion washed over him.

“When I started speaking Greek, I saw him shed a single tear,” Julia shared. “That was the highlight of the entire day for me.”

The reception continued with one unforgettable moment after another, especially during the traditional Greek dancing.

Guests flooded the dance floor for lively group dances, but one of the most powerful moments of the evening came during Georgios’ zeibekiko, a deeply emotional Greek solo dance traditionally performed by the groom.

He danced first alone, then alongside his brothers, honoring Julia and both of their families.

“You could feel his pride and joy while he danced,” Julia said.

The Nerves Before the Wedding

Even the most beautiful wedding days come with nerves.

For Georgios, it was perfecting the zeibekiko dance. He practiced for hours the weekend before the wedding, determined to honor the tradition well.

It paid off.

“The entire room was cheering him on,” Julia said. “And I absolutely loved it.”

Julia’s biggest concern was her gown, an incredible couture design by Sima Couture.

The dress was stunning, but also extremely heavy.

“I was nervous about wearing it all night with my shoes,” she admitted. “But honestly, once the day started, I didn’t notice a thing.”

She stayed on the dance floor all evening and even wore the gown again the following day for their private Greek Orthodox ceremony.

Advice for Future Couples

When asked what advice they would give future couples planning their wedding, both laughed before answering.

Georgios kept it simple.

“Find an amazing, organized wife!”

Julia’s answer came from experience.

“Do NOT attempt to coordinate your wedding day yourself,” she said. “I didn’t have my planner for our second ceremony on Sunday and immediately realized how valuable that support truly is.”

Even with a smaller guest count, managing logistics, floral transfers, transportation, and timing became overwhelming. It only reinforced how grateful she was for the team that helped Saturday flow so seamlessly.

A Hawaiian Honeymoon

Just days after the wedding, the newlyweds escaped to Hawaii for their honeymoon, beginning in Maui before island hopping to Oahu.

In Maui, they woke up at 2:30 AM to watch the Haleakalā sunrise, explored the famous Road to Hana, stopped for warm banana bread and coconut ice cream, and soaked in the beauty of countless waterfalls and quiet beach days.

In Honolulu, they explored Waikiki Beach, visited Pearl Harbor for Georgios, and spent a day at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa for Julia.

A perfect balance, just like them.

Looking Ahead

When asked what they’re most excited for in marriage, their answer was immediate.

“All the adventures we will have in life. It will be so exciting to see where in the world life takes us together. We can’t wait to see what’s next.”

Julia and Georgios’ wedding day was more than elegant details or a beautiful ballroom. It was the celebration of two people who built a life through intention, culture, friendship, and love, one kitchen dance at a time.

And somehow, inside the historic walls of the Blackstone Hotel, surrounded by candlelight, Greek music, and the people who love them most, it truly felt like the beginning of their happily ever after.
