Some love stories are written in the stars, and others are crafted in dorm rooms. For Kassiani and AJ, their journey began in high school, and though their paths intertwined at the University of Iowa—where they unknowingly lived just one floor apart—it wasn’t until junior year that their love truly bloomed. It all started with an ice cream date, and as Kassiani fondly says, “The rest is history.” December 7th marks a decade of love, laughter, and companionship for these two, who became best friends before ever becoming a couple. Kassiani describes AJ as a true, genuine soul, unlike anyone she had ever met. He was the first person she could spend endless hours with and never tire of his company—a feeling that grew deeper over the years. That led them to their dream wedding in Iowa at Little Lights on the Lane.
A Proposal in Mexico
The proposal was just as special as their journey together. AJ chose to pop the question in Mexico, a destination rich in family tradition—his father had asked his mother to marry him in the same place years before. Surrounded by warmth and love, Kassiani said yes, beginning a new chapter in their beautiful story.
The Dress
Kassiani’s search for the perfect wedding dress ended the moment she stepped into her gown at Kinsley James Bridal in Walnut Creek, California. Designed by the legendary Galia Lahav, her dress was everything she had envisioned and more. “The moment I slipped it on, I knew it was the one,” Kassiani recalled. The intricate design and delicate details made her feel like the radiant bride she had always dreamed of being.
A Bright Wedding
Their wedding at Little Lights on the Lane in Iowa was a vivid reflection of their lively and outgoing personalities. Kassiani and AJ wanted something bright, fun, and tropical—a day filled with joy and energy. And they got exactly that. Every element, from the vibrant décor to the energetic atmosphere, came together perfectly to bring their dream wedding to life. “Our wedding was an absolute dream,” they shared, “We cannot thank our wedding vendors, friends, and family enough for making the day so special.”
One of the highlights of their dream wedding in Iowa was their decision to do a first look. “We’re so happy we did! The day goes by so quickly, so soaking up any alone time just the two of us was so special. We wouldn’t have done it any other way.” Kassiani and AJ shared an unforgettable moment, away from the bustling excitement of the day, cherishing the quiet intimacy before saying “I do.”
They also chose to exchange their vows privately after the main hall reveal—a moment Kassiani will never forget. Being surrounded by their closest family and friends, who had all gathered to celebrate their love, made the day even more magical.
Overcoming Anxieties
Of course, planning a wedding comes with its challenges, and Kassiani and AJ were no strangers to the typical pre-wedding nerves. “There are so many moving parts when it comes to planning a wedding, so there was always a fear that something might get missed.” But the couple couldn’t have been more pleased with how seamlessly everything came together. The collaboration between their photographer, videographer, wedding planner, day-of coordinators, and all their vendors was flawless. “It was truly remarkable how perfectly the day went!” they remarked.
Advice for Future Couples
Kassiani and AJ have some heartfelt advice for couples planning their own big day: “The day is long, but rest assured each and every special moment will be captured, and you will get to keep the photos and cherish the memories for the rest of your life! Soak in every moment and try to be present. Life is fleeting, so cherish each moment you have. All the stress, tears, and endless worries are worth it in the end. Don’t get caught up in the small mishaps—they are bound to happen.”
And they even have a fun tip to keep the wedding planning stress-free: “Try making wedding planning fun with your significant other by doing it over a nice dinner or while enjoying some ice cream.”
Looking Forward
As Kassiani and AJ embark on their next chapter, they plan to escape the chilly Iowa winters with a warm December getaway. Beyond that, they are excited to continue making lasting memories, eventually start a family, and grow old together. This wedding was only the beginning of a lifetime of adventures for this incredible couple.
To Kassiani and AJ, here’s to 10 years together, and many more to come! Thank you for letting us be a part of your dream wedding in Iowa at Little Lights on the Lane.
