When Katherine walked into a meeting to pitch Jamal’s company a product, she walked out having met her future husband. Literally.
“The day I met him,” she recalls, “I told my team, ‘I just met my future husband.’ Jamal still doesn’t believe I said that, but I absolutely did!”
Over the next three years, their bond deepened into something rare: a partnership built on mutual ambition, emotional honesty, and unwavering support. “We push each other to be the best versions of ourselves,” Katherine shared. “We’re confidants, best friends, business advisors. And even when we don’t see eye to eye, we’re quick to apologize and even quicker to forgive.”
The Proposal: A Maldives Masterpiece
True to form, Jamal’s proposal was the perfect balance of intention and romance. He planned a ten-day trip to the Maldives to celebrate Katherine’s birthday, but waited until the eighth day, her actual birthday, to propose. That patience speaks volumes about who Jamal is: thoughtful, precise, and deeply devoted.
That night, as they returned to their villa, Jamal presented a series of hand-crafted nesting boxes, each containing a photo from their years together. The smallest box held a simple ring box, empty at first glance, until he dropped to one knee and asked Katherine to be his forever.
The Wedding: Where It All Came Full Circle
Fate has a funny way of making promises it fully intends to keep. On their second date, Jamal took Katherine to Cabo, where they shared a magical dinner at Acre Resort. In a moment of lighthearted daydreaming, they joked that if they ever got married, it would have to be in Cabo.
Three years later, standing beneath the desert sky surrounded by agave, cactus, and love, they made that vision a reality.

One of the most unforgettable moments came after the ceremony when Katherine’s 9-year-old son ran into Jamal’s arms, overwhelmed with emotion, crying, “I love you, Dad.” That moment, raw, heartfelt, and pure, is one we’ll never forget. Wedding Advice from the Bride & Groom
For couples planning their own celebration, Katherine and Jamal offered this sage advice:
- Don’t sweat the small stuff. Only you’ll know if the teal was a shade off or if the peonies were swapped for roses.
- If your budget allows, hire a stellar wedding planner. Let them handle the stress so you can stay grounded in joy.
- Stay present. Greet guests as a united front. Be intentional about experiencing the day together.
- Prioritize pictures with your people. The photos will become heirlooms, make sure everyone important to you is in them.
The Future: Love, Legacy, and Seychelles Skies
Katherine and Jamal chose to separate their honeymoon from their wedding, a brilliant move that gives them something new to look forward to. This fall, they’ll jet off to the Seychelles for a new chapter of adventure and relaxation.
But more than the destination, what lies ahead is a life anchored in shared purpose. “We’d love to grow our family,” Katherine says, “but even if that’s not in God’s plan, we’re already so fulfilled. This marriage is our foundation.”
